Club Member Anthony McKenna recently took part in challenge Barcelona-Maresme ironman which consisted of a 3.8 km swim, a 180km bike ride and a 42 km run. Anthony undertook the event with 7 other athletes from triangle triathlon club.

Anthony’s commitment and dedication to training has led to an improvement in his previous ironman Nice time by over an hour. We all congratulate him on such an excellent result and wish him a speedy recovery from such a long gruelling event.

In competitions such as this, or in training for cycling events or Sportives, summer goals are only achieved through a solid winters training. This builds an aerobic base and increases fitness levels.  Spires CC winter training has already started with cycles leaving the Rainey old boys rugby club at 9am every Saturday and Sunday. Also many athletes from  Spires attend mid week turbo training and core stability sessions and also take part in Ty fitness spin classes at various times throughout the week.
